Let me give you an example of this principle at work. A couple of years ago, Volvo wanted to take advantage of advertising on the Super Bowl. There was only one problem; they couldn’t afford the cost of running an advertisement there. Most companies would take that as an accepted fact; we can’t afford it. For the folks who developed this strategy, what they knew to be true would have been ‘Car companies who can afford to advertise their own cars on the Super Bowl broadcast’. Go Opposite thinking would be ‘car companies advertise for Volvo on the Super Bowl’ – or something along that line.

As opposed to saying ‘that’s impossible’, the previous statement would have been followed by,

‘In what ways could other car companies advertise for Volvo on the Super Bowl?’

The campaign they developed emanated from that kind of thinking. And, it is brilliant, don’t you think?!
